FC Pinzgau’s Ambitious Path

The unique Fan Owned Club with clear goals - Saalfelden eyeing promotion to the second tier

FC Pinzgau Saalfelden of the Salzburg regional league have, for the past few months, embraced an approach that has never been seen before in Austria. An American idea has taken hold in the third tier in the rather traditional Pinzgau region to kick off a unique, long-term football project. The Fan Owned Club project in Saalfelden has been the subject of plenty of discussion already, but there is little awareness of the exact background.

Every football fan, no matter where they are based around the world, has the opportunity to buy club shares in FC Pinzgau Saalfelden online (starting at $500) and therefore become a co-owner - a process that is subject to detailed checks before the shares are purchased. Acquiring shares puts you right into the middle of an exciting, growing football project in which, in the future, you will be able to actively contribute to important operational and strategic club decisions. Online meetings will regularly provide instructive insights into the work, the current status and the next steps planned by the ambitious third-tier club. FCPS is aiming over the course of the next season to both professionalise its own infrastructure in all areas as well as gaining promotion to the second tier. The shareholders will also get to contribute their personal ideas and expertise to form a vital building block for the future development of the entire club.

So far, almost 250 people from the Salzburg region and across the world have bought various amounts of shares (over 200 of them via the online platform WeFunder). The resulting income is being invested carefully in the club’s long-term interests (in infrastructure, management and organisation etc.) to put down important foundations for the future.

All of the matches of the team coached by Christian Ziege are being broadcast around the world on live streams to serve a growing international following.

The Fan Owned Club project at FC Pinzgau Saalfelden can break new ground in football in the long term, and serve as a role model for many other clubs!

Fan Owned Club CEO Mark Ciociola explains: “Every football fan anywhere in the world can buy a share of our club that they will own for a lifetime. A lot of time, money and energy is being invested around the world to support this club. This will be an important factor for our long-term success - we therefore want to give them certain ownership and decision-making rights. Our goal is to provide a unique experience and exclusive insight into our daily work. If FC Pinzgau Saalfelden develops well and performs well in the future, every individual owner will benefit. We have a clear path and many ideas in mind. We will not rush anything though, we are going to build things up in a structured way and consistently pursue our goals step by step!”

Christian Herzog, FC Pinzgau Saalfelden CEO, adds: “We have already received a very positive response to the path we are taking. We are pleased that our project is not only being well received internationally, but around us in Pinzgau, above all. This is a very important aspect for us, because we want to and will remain loyal to our club’s key values in the future. We all have an exciting time to look forward to as we bring two mindsets to a common professional denominator to ensure the best possible development for our club in the future.”
