SV KUCHL VS. FC PINZGAU SAALFELDEN MATCH REPORT

Salzburg Regional League Matchday 8: SV Kuchl 2-0 FC Pinzgau Saalfelden

Kuchl, September 11 2020

FC Pinzgau Saalfelden suffered another setback as they were beaten 2-0 by a well-organised and counter-attacking SV Kuchl side on Matchday 8. Matthias Seidl scored either side of the interval to ensure the home side took all three points and returned to the top of the table.

The Scenario

FCPS struggled for consistency in the opening weeks of the season but managed to secure a much-needed win over a previously unbeaten USK Anif last time out courtesy of an outstanding long-range strike from Alfusainey Jatta. SV Kuchl, meanwhile, succumbed to an unexpected defeat in their last outing. Having beaten Austria Salzburg 4-1 to go top of the table on Matchday 6, they then became the first team to lose to bottom-of-the-table SV Grödig this season.

The Action

FCPS boss Christian Ziege was without six players for this tricky trip to Kuchl, with the duo of Denis Kahrimanovic and Alexander Gadenstätter having joined Simon Ollert, Raphael Streitwieser, Michael Viehhauser and David Rathgeb on the injury list. The German tactician lined his team up in a 3-3-3-1 formation with Semir Gvozdjar playing as the lone frontman. Kuchl boss Mario Helmlinger opted for a 4-3-2-1 system. The home side were well-organised in defence throughout and tried to break at speed upon winning the ball back.

The first chance of the match fell to Tamas Tandari in the eighth minute, but his header sailed wide of the near post. Instead, it was the hosts who took the lead around the quarter-hour mark. Alexander Hofer fed Seidl, who sprinted between Daniel Raischl and Niklas Mühlbacher before slotting past Henrik Regitnig to open the scoring.

Jonas Schwaighofer, who was handed his first start of the season after scoring a stunning free-kick for the Juniors last weekend, came closest to hitting back for the Mountainous Pine Blues after 25 minutes. The 19-year-old dribbled past Lukas Buchegger with ease and then tried to bend the ball inside the far corner but fired wide.

Kuchl might have doubled their lead shortly before the break when Alexander Hofer broke down the right flank and cut inside Mühlbacher. But Regitnig was on hand to thwart the danger. It would have been harsh had he found the net given that Christoph Hübl clearly caught Niklas Seiler with a high foot in the build-up to the chance.

Mario Helmlinger’s charges continued to look dangerous after the interval and Regitnig was called into action to deny Hofer from inside the penalty area in the 48th minute. Seidl struck the side-netting seconds later and then fired over the bar with the goal gaping on the hour mark as the hosts went in search of the goal that would kill the game.

FCPS had a few forays forward of their own, but Gvozdjar and Schubert could not manage to convert promising opportunities and Seidl doubled the advantage with three minutes to go. Simon Seidl almost added another in the second minute of stoppage time but his low shot rebounded off the post and the whistle blew with the score 2-0.

The Mountainous Pine Blues are at home twice next week: they take on TSV St. Johann on Tuesday evening before facing SV Wals-Grünau late on Saturday afternoon.
