FC Pinzgau Saalfelden is gearing up for the Regionalliga Salzburg spring season with three mid-season friendlies prior to the big kick-off on 18 March against SV Wals-Grünau, as we fight on two fronts in both league and cup.
Below, we’ve prepared a short guide for our upcoming opponents with a variety of interesting facts for you to enjoy!
SC Copacabana Kalsdorf (5th February, 14:00 CET)
One of the more elaborately named clubs in Austrian football system, the club from Kalsdorf bei Graz isn’t named after the famous Brazilian beach (unfortunately), but rather a housing complex built in the town. Kalsdorf bei Graz has a remarkable history with a settlement recorded there from the late Bronze Age. It is also the reported burial site of one of the most fearsome rulers in European history, Attila the Hun.
SC Copacabana Kalsdorf play in the Regionalliga Mitte – the same level as us – and are currently placed 13th in the 17-team division. The club have had a remarkable season so far, progressing in the ÖFB-Cup to take on reigning champions and cup winners Red Bull Salzburg before losing 8-0 at the Red Bull Arena.
FC Kitzbühel (26th February, 14:00 CET)
Kitzbühel is internationally renowned as one of Austria’s finest ski resort towns and enjoys a reputation as the winter destination du jour of Europe’s rich and famous. Situated between the Hahnenkamm (5,617 ft) and Kitzbühler Horn (6,549 ft) mountains, the town hosts annual World Cup ski races including the circuit’s most notable single event as well as the Austrian Open ATP tennis event every summer. In 2021, the town has seen a resurgence of interest with the Netflix series “Kitz” becoming a hit.
FC Eurotours Kitzbühel are having an excellent 2021/22 sitting second in the Regionalliga Tirol regular season with 34 points and in the mix for a top two finish to qualify for the six-team Regionalliga West Elite Liga. Another regular opponent of FCPS, in the summer we battled FC Kitzbühel to a 4-3 defeat in Uttendorf but recorded a 1-0 victory against FCK in July 2020.
