🆚 SAK 1914 v FC Pinzgau Saalfelden
🏆 Salzburg Regional League Matchday 1
🏟️ HCS Arena Nonntal
🕖 July 22, 2022 (18:30 CET) 🇦🇹
Our path towards promotion begins away against SAK 1914.
41 days have passed since the last competitive match and much has transpired over the summer break for Pinzgau. In addition to an intensive preparation under new trainer Alexander Schriebl, the squad has also received a completely new look with a total of nine new players to the roster.
The expectations are high for this season’s promotion aspirations and our kick-off against SAK will be an important assessment for the next few weeks.
⏫ Opposition ⏫
Founded June 24, 1914, Salzburger Athletiksport Klub are the oldest club in Salzburg and were the dominant force in the region in the interwar period, becoming state champions fifteen years in a row between 1924 and 1938.
After World War II, their superiority waned and success became more spread out, reaching the Austrian top flight three times (in 1953, 1962 and 1986) and immediately relegated after each season.
After almost going bankrupt in 1991, SAK found themselves down in the fifth tier, gradually climbing back up through the pyramid and returning to the third division at the close of the 2018/19 campaign.
Promotion contenders in their first season, their aspirations were dashed by the pandemic and infrastructural problems, languishing in the lower echelons of the table ever since.
⏫ Statement ⏫
Alexander Schriebl: “The summer preparations are always very short, so the framework is always very tight, but we were able to convey our idea to the players very well and they know what is important. Our goal is to play dynamically, very actively, straightforwardly and without a lot of frills. We want to work on many things together as a team – then it all starts to be fun. You can tell that we gather common experiences every day and continuously make progress. I think we have already created a very good basis and of course want to take something away from the SAK at the start. The Nonntaler were one of the best teams in the league in spring, so it won’t be an easy task. If we put our things on the pitch and play a good game then there’s definitely something in there.”
⏫ Team News ⏫
Alexander Schriebl will have to do without a few players for the opening match against the Nonntalers. Alessandro Ziege (knee), Raphael Streitwieser (ankle), Ratan Dudaew (knee) and Marcell Toth (ankle) will be forced to miss the next few weeks. Joao Pedro is back on track after recovering from injury, but will be slowly brought back into the fold.
⏫ Head-To-Head ⏫
FC Pinzgau have their noses in front in this fixture, with nine victories, six draws and eight defeats from their previous 23 meetings. Our last meeting this spring ended in a 3-0 win for SAK.
