SAK test awaits Ziege Crew in Salzburg

Preview: Regionalliga Salzburg 2021/22
Round 14: SAK 1914 vs. FC Pinzgau Saalfelden

Friday 8th October 2021, 19:00 CET, HCS-Arena Nonntal

Six days after the sensational 7-0 victory at home against USK Anif, FC Pinzgau Saalfelden’s next task is Regionalliga Salzburg basement club SAK 1914 on Friday night. The contest is a must-win for the Ziege Crew if they are to keep up with TSV St. Johann and Austria Salzburg in the top two race.

Even though Roman Wallner’s team currently sit at the bottom of the table, it will be a difficult task to come away with the three points. The 2021/22 season has already shown several times that any team can be beaten on their day in the Regionalliga Salzburg and that there have been surprises almost every matchday. The clash at the Saalfelden Arena was hard-fought and ultimately ended deservedly in a 3-2 home win for Christian Ziege’s men, so the formbook is definitely on the side of the Mountainous Pine Blues.

It promises to be a high-scoring affair at the Nonntal with the two clubs scoring a remarkable 72 goals in their previous 21 fixtures against each other – 35 goals for FCPS, and 37 goals for the Salzburg side.

PERSONNEL SITUATION

Christian Ziege is still without the long-term injury absentee Denis Kahrimanovic (cruciate ligament). (cruciate ligament). Sebastian Handlechner is also questionable to play after suffering a muscle injury on Saturday.

STATEMENT
Christian Ziege: “The win against Anif was very good for us as a team and gives us a big boost for the upcoming games. It was an important experience for the players to see that we can maintain this level over 90 minutes and can convert chances into goals. But we must not make the mistake of believing that everything will now continue in this manner – otherwise things can quickly go in the other direction. We must continue to work in a concentrated manner in the coming weeks and keep our focus high. After this, we can build on our performance against Anif and play successful football. We want to take the next step on Friday at SAK!”
